Stan. Fucking. Lee.
With Takei Hiroyuki (double wtf, I thought they had cut him off years ago).
Jump SQ is an odd, odd magazine indeed. And me who thought the idea of a Toriyama Akira/Katsura Masakazu tag was weird.
A bit of a shame, because I'm sure both Watsuki Nobuhiro and Katsura Masakazu would have wet their pants if they got to work with Lee. Not that I think Takei would be blasé about it, but still; Watsuki and Katsura both do list American comics as a major influence on their art.

I am sure Takei is wetting his pants himself.
He'll be all dehydrated when this is over. But I am trying to remember, and failing, whether Takei is also a fan of American comics.
A large part of Shaman King took place in the USA, and I somehow have that vague idea in my head that he is fond of foreign stuff.
He has this group of
stuck-up jerksshamans who call themselves the X-Laws. It couuuuuuuuld be an X-Men reference. Maybe. A really subtle one. It could hint at him being a fan, of American comics, or of the letter X.I wish I remembered. But I'm sure he knows what a lucky bastard he is.

I'm bad at remembering things like that, but was Takei an assistant to Watsuki? Then maybe he is a fan.
The first cracky tag SQ did, uh, left something to be desired (to put it mildly), so I hope this fusion is better. :/ A part of me hoped the merge will work better if Takei knows American comics, but on the other hand, the objective of the whole thing seems to be to merge two opposing styles, so if it just merges nicely SQ might see it as a bad thing...?
I'm rambling because I can't figure out what the hell the SQ editorial staff is thinking. I'll reserve judgement until I read Toriyama/Katsura, I guess.

(Ah, you think Watsuki brainwashes all his assistents into superhero comic fans?)
He was an assistant of his, yes, and they are also friends. Well, I hope they still are. XD
I agree, Obata/Morita was rather unmemorable. Granted, I don't really know Morita, but maybe they just didn't sizzle. The upcoming collaborations could be different, because unlike Obata, none of them (probably with the exception of Stan Lee) usually works in tandem, maybe?
And Takei's style is probably the LAST I'd consider... compatible with good old American super hero comics. I wonder what will come out of this, indeed.
(Jesus fuck, it's windy outside.)

There's that! Are they trying to make their new magazine as shiny as ever possible? Will they continue trying to get all sorts of guest stars to contribute, or will they stop this strategy after a few months. And if they do that, will the sales go down?
It just sounds like something that's difficult to keep up forever. Or maybe I am overthinking things. There've also been normal oneshots, after all.
